Overview: Since the increasing use of proton therapy in routine clinical practice, RBE is a frequently discussed issue, especially regarding how this should be translated in the treatment of patients. In this session, the current knowledge on RBE from preclinical studies will be presented, followed by the current experience to what extent, preclinical data on RBE translates into clinical findings. Finally, the possible consequences and potential opportunities regarding how to deal with RBE and LET in proton therapy treatment planning to further improve the therapeutic window of proton therapy will be discussed.
