The impact of immoblisation/positioning in advanced radiotherapy
Colleen Dickie, Canada;
Philipp Scherer, Austria
Accurate patient positioning and rigid patient immobilization have served as the cornerstone of radiation therapy. Although well recognized as critical components of high-quality precision radiation treatment, as technology advances, traditional methods are challenged, and innovative solutions have emerged. Moreover, different technologies demand different approaches ranging from no immobilization with little positioning to complex set ups requiring heightened attention to numerous factors. In this session, our speakers will highlight the intricacies of immobilization and positioning for proton therapy, the MR Linac and advanced external beam radiotherapy techniques. Patient and equipment factors, quality and safety, planning considerations, reproducibility versus comfort, opportunities and challenges will be discussed
