Falcon 2023 Online Course - OAR Brain

This Brain OAR delineation workshop is aimed at all students, physician assistants, researchers and junior to experienced radiation oncologists who want hold their institutional brain delineation guideline against the currently available literature. Enabling even senior specialists to refresh and validate their knowledge and skills in this field. The workshop brings the live delineation workshops from the annual ESTRO conference to your doorstep in two sessions in which you can practice, learn and are free to ask any questions you might have on this subject.

The increasing use of highly conformal radiotherapy techniques, such as VMAT and proton therapy in the treatment of brain tumours, allow us to selectively spare organs at risk while maintaining adequate target coverage. While long term side effects associated with cranial irradiation have long have long been recognized e.g. cognitive decline, the link between toxicity and dose to specific brain’s substructures is far more enigmatic. Furthermore increasing insight in the complex organisation of the brain identifies new substructures playing a role in treatment induced toxicity.

Standardization of organ at risk delineation is therefore crucial if we want to advance our knowledge on the dose dependent toxicities after cranial irradiation. In this course we will focus on these substructures. A practical toolbox for organ at risk delineation for all the daily practice OARs as well as new potential relevant structures according to the EPTN Neuro delineation atlas 2021 is provided (www.cancerdata.org).

These online delineation workshops are aimed at junior clinical or radiation oncologists who want to improve their contouring skills or at more senior specialists who want to refresh and validate their knowledge and skills in this field.
