ESTRO 2027

It is my great pleasure to invite you to ESTRO 2027 taking place from 21 to 25 May in Milan, Italy - one of Europe's most creative and innovative cities, and home to many of the world’s leading oncology centres.

The congress theme is:

"We care. We innovate. We cure."

These three simple statements capture the essence of Radiation Oncology and the mission of ESTRO and our community. They remind us that exceptional patient care is at the heart of everything we do, that innovation is the driving force behind our progress, and that together we are improving outcomes and moving ever closer to curing more patients with cancer.

At ESTRO 2027, we will explore how patient-centred care, scientific discovery and technological innovation are inseparable. By bringing together clinicians, physicists, radiation therapists, biologists, industry partners, patients and many other experts, we will continue to push the boundaries of our discipline and shape the future of cancer treatment.

The congress theme will be reflected throughout the programme. Inspiring speakers will challenge and motivate us, more patients than ever will share their experiences and perspectives, and interaction between chairs, speakers and participants will be further strengthened to maximise learning, collaboration and exchange.

We will continue to champion scientific excellence through various initiatives. The highlight sessions will promote the latest developments in the field of Radiation Oncology, including the hugely successful joint session with the Green Journal and The Lancet Oncology, and selected papers will be broadcast via media interviews and oncology channels.

ESTRO 2027 will also host Europe’s largest industry exhibition in Radiation Oncology, offering a unique opportunity to engage with industry leaders, discover the latest technological advances and explore innovations that are transforming patient care.

Join the ever-growing ESTRO family in Milan as we demonstrate what our community stands for:

We care. We innovate. We cure.

The ESTRO annual meeting is growing at an accelerated pace, with record numbers of delegates and submitted abstracts in 2026. With the Championing Scientific Excellence initiatives will continue for ESTRO 2027, to make it the event to submit your top research to.

Call for Abstracts: Green Journal Collaboration with The Lancet Oncology

After the enormous success in 2025 and 2026, Radiotherapy & Oncology (the Green Journal) and The Lancet Oncology are once again joining forces for ESTRO 2027. The top clinical trials and other transformative research abstracts will be selected for a special Green Journal - The Lancet Oncology joint session and could be published in either journal.

Abstract Submission Deadlines

The deadlines for both regular abstract submission and late-breaking abstract submission have been moved back to ensure that you are able to submit your most up-to-date science to the congress.

  • Regular abstract submission deadline: 11 November 2026
  • Late-breaking abstract submission deadline: 31 March 2027

Abstract Presentations

The latest research will be presented in a plenary setting, without other sessions taking place in parallel, ensuring maximum exposure for the most up-to-date science. Many of your proffered papers will be followed by discussants to highlight the presented science. Some sessions will also include a panel of experts to discuss the importance of your presented work.

All abstract presentations, from proffered papers to mini-orals to poster discussions, will be recorded to ensure that delegates have the chance to see all your research submitted to the congress.

With the increasing number digital posters included in the programme, the new category of Poster Highlights will be continued in 2027. This will give the opportunity for the top-scoring digital posters to be promoted and give you the chance to network with delegates and discuss your work.

The abstracts scoring in the top 5% will receive a certificate attesting to the quality of the submitted science.

Media Activities

We will build on the success of the press activities of ESTRO 2026, inviting journalists to cover the breaking science and latest research presented at the congress. Collaborations with leading oncology news sites will be repeated. Along with social media ambassadors and daily congress email reports, communications before, during and after the congress will promote the important work you will present at the congress.

Abstract submission for ESTRO 2027 opens mid-September 2026. The deadline for submission is 11 November 2026, 23:59 CET.

The peer review and selection process take place in December and January. Selection results will be communicated by 31 January 2027.

Full guidelines and submission topics will be published soon.

Late-Breaking Abstracts

Late-breaking abstract submission opens on 17 March 2027. The deadline for submission is 31 March 2027, 23:59 CET.

Late-breaking abstracts must present timely findings which were not available at the time of the deadline (11 November 2026). The late-breaking abstract deadline is not intended to be a second deadline for abstract submissions. Abstracts deemed to not be truly late-breaking are rejected.

Full guidelines will be published soon.
