Join the ESTRO Course!

22 September – 23 November 2025 (includes webinars and a practical weekend)
Tallinn, Estonia

Sophie Perryck, course director

Why join this course?

The positioning and immobilisation course is one of the few ESTRO courses that is designed specifically for radiation therapists (RTTs). The content covers the basic principles of positioning and immobilisation as well as practical tips and tricks, supported by experience and research.

Participants will gain:

  • expert knowledge on positioning and immobilisation from top professionals;
  • practical skills through real-world case exercises and group activities;
  • hands-on experience during the in-person practical weekend in Tallinn, Estonia; and
  • a multidisciplinary perspective, through learning from RTTs, radiation oncologists, and medical physicists.

Course structure

The course has a blended concept of learning, described below.

  • Webinars (September–November 2025)

The course starts with three webinars spread over two months. Between the webinars, sometimes group exercises are given to the participants.

  • Practical weekend (22–23 November 2025, Tallinn, Estonia)
    The course ends with a practical weekend, during which three teachers give lectures on-site at a hospital. During one afternoon, we will visit the department and practice the skills for positioning patients for stereotactic treatments and making a thermoplastic mould for head-and-neck treatments.

Meet the course director

My name is Sophie Perryck. I graduated in June 2011 with a BSc from InHolland University of Applied Sciences in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. I worked as an RTT at Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (NKI-AVL, Netherlands Cancer Institute) from 2011 until early 2015. In June 2015, I started as an RTT at the University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland. After being the education liaison for RTTs in training, I became the chief RTT at the Department for Radiation Oncology in June 2019 and have been there since. My expertise in the field encompasses stereotactic treatments, specifically abdominal expiration breath-hold, education and positioning and immobilisation, as well as leadership.

I am a member of the RTT committee and the course director. I started as a teacher of this course in 2020 and became the course director in 2024.

Join a great team of teachers!

I, Sophie Boisbouvier from the Centre Léon Bérard in France and Claudio Votta from Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli in Rome, Italy, created a wonderful weekend during which we shared our knowledge with the course participants and encouraged the participants to do the same with the group. During the webinars, we are supported by a great team of teachers that consists of RTTs, radiation oncologists, and medical physicists to lay the groundwork for the practical weekend.
