I am the director of physics at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Liverpool, UK. As the director, I lead strategic initiatives to advance quality, safety, and innovation in medical physics and related disciplines. I enjoy working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, professional bodies, and regulatory agencies to ensure that standards reflect the latest scientific evidence and best practices.

I am committed to supporting the education and training of future medical physicists through the University of Liverpool’s MSc in Clinical Science, for which I lead the professional practice module and serve on the governance board.

Professionally, I have co-authored key policy statements, such as recommendations for the provision of physics services to radiotherapy in the UK, and participated in specialist committees that have evaluated emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) in treatment planning. I am also an active member of the UK Health Security Agency’s steering group on patient safety in radiotherapy, which supports national efforts to improve safety standards and disseminates best-practice guidance through initiatives such as the Safer Radiotherapy e-bulletins and the recent publication Advancing Safer Radiotherapy

I have a keen interest in professional practice, safety science, and the increasing use of AI in radiotherapy. The growth of AI-based healthcare applications is likely to require significant changes in the education, training, and clinical practices of all radiation oncology professionals in the coming years.

My motivation for joining the ESTRO radiation oncology safety and quality committee (ROSQC) stems from a deep commitment to the advancement of patient safety and the fostering of effective safety cultures in multidisciplinary teams. I hope to bring my expertise in medical physics, safety science, organisational change, and education to contribute meaningfully to the committee’s work in advancing safety and quality in radiation oncology.
