At the end of 2022, our Dutch professional society NVMBR (Nederlandse Vereniging Medische Beeldvorming en Radiotherapie) experienced a turbulent period in its existence. This was caused by a decline in membership over recent years, while at the same time the society’s fixed costs gradually increased. The board at the time searched for a sustainable solution.

A working group of dedicated members prepared a new organizational structure, statutes and internal rules, which were approved by the members in July 2023. The target was to rebuild the society into a modern 100% online, interactive organization, run by volunteers only and supported by minimal paid administrative assistance.

The new organizational structure includes networks and task groups, among others. A network consists of members and non-members who share a common interest in a professional field and who wish to exchange information, knowledge and experience and by doing so also contribute to the NVMBR to achieve its aims.

A task group consists of society members with specific expertise and focuses on a well-defined topic, such as for example the revision of the professional profile document, relevant legislation or international contacts and activities.

The relaunch of NVMBR in the new format is now reality. We are continuously developing and fine tuning the organization, within the possibilities this new format offers and of course depending on the enthusiasm and participation of our members.

A special moment we are looking forward to is our 75th anniversary celebration on Friday, November 7. It promises to be a beautiful and inspiring event for our members.

We will start the morning with the general assembly meeting and after lunch a retrospective and a forward-looking mini-symposium, followed by the anniversary party. It is a big occasion to finally meet many members face to face again since end 2022. We firmly believe that a professional society should maintain a positive and active connection with professionals in all related fields, nationally and internationally. Only in this way can we collectively and professionally address the challenges posed by rapid technological developments, labor market situations and increasingly detailed legal regulations.

Last, but not least, we intend to share our experience and to offer support to colleague professional societies. Let us continue to inspire and support one another.

Warm regards,

NVMBR Board
