Go behind the scenes of brachytherapy and discover what the workflow really looks like. Through expert guidance and a fellow’s personal experience, participants will explore how cases are approached, which skills trainees develop, how common challenges are managed, and how confidence grows through supervised, hands-on exposure.

Chairs

  • Johannes Knoth, Radiation Oncologist, Medical University of Vienna (AT) — Chair
  •  Sorina Niculescu, Radiation Oncologist, MedEuropa Affidea Bucharest (RO) — Co-Chair

Speakers

  • Johannes Knoth, Radiation Oncologist, Medical University of Vienna (AT)
  • Alba Dominguez-Dominguez, Hospital Universitario de Gran Canaria Dr. Negrín (ES)

Programme

17:00–17:05 | Introduction by Chairs

17:05–17:25 | From indication to implant: what really happens in brachytherapy — Johannes Knoth
A practical walk-through of the brachytherapy workflow, including patient selection, imaging, applicator choice, treatment planning, multidisciplinary teamwork, clinical decision-making and common beginner pitfalls.

17:25–17:45 | My first brachytherapy case: what was difficult, what became easier, and what I learned — Alba Dominguez Dominguez
A fellow’s perspective on the initial learning curve, first procedures, hands-on learning during fellowship, differences between institutions, and how supervised exposure builds confidence.

17:45–18:00 | Interactive case-based voting, discussion & Q&A (poll function required)
Participants vote on selected aspects of a clinical case, such as indication, applicator, imaging and dose approach. Audience choices are then compared with the reasoning of the expert and fellow, followed by discussion of common challenges and institutional barriers.
