Innovations in emerging technologies have moved medical imaging to the centre of both the diagnosis and treatment processes for head-and-neck cancer. Imaging, along with breakthroughs in the understanding of molecular biology and the pathogenesis of cancer, including insights into the role of human papilloma virus, and immunotherapy, form the modern armoury that is used to treat this disease.

Various applications of imaging are used in the diagnosis and staging of diseases, and the active treatment of head-and-neck cancer and for follow-up. It has even become the pivot around which multidisciplinary tumour boards discuss what clinical decisions are appropriate.

At the symposium, keynote speakers will bring participants up-to-date on general knowledge and will explain case reports to discuss the implementation of that acquired knowledge. Also, this symposium will draw participants’ attention to pitfalls in the implementation of these recent achievements in daily clinical practice.

The symposium is important to both residents and specialists working in the fields of otolaryngology, head-and-neck surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, general surgery, radiotherapy, pathology, dermatology, radiology, and speech and language pathology, and to fellows and residents in training. Lectures and presentations are aimed to teach attendees about the latest imaging techniques, and there will be a discussion of current advances and state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of head-and-neck cancer. The speakers have been chosen to complement the multidisciplinary character of this symposium.
