Maastro is pleased to host the first International Workshop on Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT). This ESTRO-endorsed event brings together radiation oncology professionals to explore the integration and optimisation of SGRT in clinical practice. Through a combination of expert presentations and hands-on training, participants will gain practical insights into the latest developments in surface guidance technology for radiotherapy.
The workshop will provide a structured approach to SGRT, covering fundamental principles, implementation strategies, and quality assurance methods. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussions on SGRT applications for various treatment modalities, including proton therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery/stereotactic body radiation therapy, and markerless/tattooless radiotherapy. A key feature of the workshop is the hands-on sessions, in which small groups will work directly with different commercial SGRT systems that have been installed at Maastro.
According to Michel Öllers, medical physicist expert at Maastro, the workshop offers a valuable learning experience for professionals looking to refine their understanding of SGRT: "Surface guidance is becoming an essential tool in radiotherapy, improving both accuracy and patient comfort. However, successful implementation requires more than just installing a system—it involves workflow adaptation, quality control, and a deep understanding of its possibilities and its limitations. This workshop is designed to provide a comprehensive perspective, combining theoretical knowledge with practical training. By working with different systems and learning from experienced professionals, participants will gain the confidence to integrate SGRT effectively into their clinical practice."
The event will take place at NH Hotel Maastricht, which is conveniently located next to Maastro, so that easy access to practical sessions is ensured. The workshop is intended for radiation therapists, medical physicists, researchers and clinicians who are interested in optimising SGRT for their institutions.
