I was supported by the European SocieTy for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) to attend the methods in clinical cancer research (MCCR) workshop. My week at MCCR was absolutely amazing. For me, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I would recommend the MCCR workshop to everyone.

During all protocol development group sessions, the scientific programme with daily lectures and small group discussion sessions, I got the opportunity to learn more about trial design.

Immediately on day one, the enthusiasm of the faculty was clearly visible and the enthusiasm and motivation were transferred to the attendees during the lectures.

When I started the week, my protocol was just a concept, yet I went home will a protocol ready to submit. The one-on-one, meet-the-expert sessions allowed me to think about my protocol design in detail and to be critical. Most importantly, the faculty members (clinicians and biostatisticians) were really involved and willing to help during the week. This was very special.

Furthermore, working closely within a group of other researchers was also helpful. I developed skills to be critical about my own trial design, but also to be critical about the designs of others and not accept a concept right away. We learned to think 'out of the box' and to develop an individual view on our own trial. I now know how I want to implement the trial in my department and how I want to continue with my research.
