Motivation:

Radiotherapy workflows have traditionally been built around a fundamental principle: reproducing the treatment plan as accurately and consistently as possible at every treatment fraction. The increasing implementation of online Adaptive Radiotherapy (oART) is challenging this long-established paradigm. Rather than simply reproducing treatment, RTTs are increasingly required to evaluate daily anatomical changes, participate in clinical decision-making, and adapt treatment to the individual patient. This shift represents not only a technological evolution, but also a fundamental change in professional practice.

Adapting to Adaptive Radiotherapy requires more than preparing individual RTTs. Education programmes, competency frameworks, legislation, professional regulations, governance models, and workforce organisation must also evolve to support these expanding responsibilities. While some countries are already embracing advanced RTT practice, considerable variation remains in education, scope of practice, and clinical implementation, creating both barriers and opportunities for the profession.

This workshop will explore how the RTT profession—and the wider systems that support it—can successfully adapt to this new era of radiotherapy. Through international discussion and shared experiences, participants will identify the competencies, educational priorities, barriers, and enablers needed to support the safe, effective, and sustainable implementation of Adaptive Radiotherapy. The outcomes will help inform future education, workforce development, and policy, ensuring that both RTTs and the systems in which they work are prepared for the next generation of adaptive radiotherapy.
