ESTRO invites applications for the position of Editor-in-Chief for Physics and Imaging in Radiation Oncology
About the Journal
Physics and Imaging in Radiation Oncology is an international, open access journal which focuses on medical physics and imaging in radiation oncology. Submissions from areas related to physics and imaging in radiation oncology are also considered. The journal publishes original research articles, review articles, short communications, technical notes, case series and reports, and correspondence. The journal is already a leading journal in medical physics.

Setting the strategy for the Journal
The journal Editor-in-Chief collaborates with the Publisher, associate editors, and editorial board members to ensure the Journal meets the highest standards in terms of scientific content for research in the field. Together, they will set the goals, objectives, and strategy for the Journal. The EiC will lead the efforts to make recommendations for updating the Journal’s aims and scope; improving the Journal features; enhancing the outreach of the Journal; as well as for improving the efficiency of the operational publishing aspects.
Acting as an Ambassador for the Journal
The Editor-in-Chief, in collaboration with the Publisher, associate editors, and editorial board members, will play a key role in strengthening the Journal’s presence within the academic community. This includes identifying opportunities for growth and innovations - such as launching special issues or thematic collections - and fostering initiatives that enhance the Journal’s academic impact. The Editor-in-Chief will also work with the Publisher to define appropriate strategies and channels to support the Journal’s visibility and attract high-quality submissions, while continually striving to uphold and elevate its academic reputation.
Ensuring an efficient operation of the Journal
The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the overall editorial management and development of the Journal, including the timely and efficient coordination of refereeing any submissions, ensuring an appropriate and sufficient level of submissions to meet the publication goals of the Journal.
The Editor-in-Chief will ensure that the Society is promptly kept informed and updated on the performance of the journal.
Appointing editors and editorial board members
The Editor-in-Chief will work closely with the Publisher, associate editors, and editorial board members to nominate candidates for appointment to the Journal’s Editorial Board and to provide recommendations regarding removals when necessary. In addition, the Editor-in-Chief will play a critical role in mentoring and supporting associate editors, particularly in upholding the Journal’s scientific standards. This responsibility will be especially important during the journal’s phase of growth and as new associate editors join the team.
Being responsible for matters of ethics in publishing
The Editor-in-Chief will conduct their activities in accordance with generally accepted industry standards for integrity and objectivity, including those defined by COPE and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). The Editor-in-Chief will work closely with the associate editors and editorial board members to resolve any questions linked to ethics of publishing in the Journal.

Applications will be treated with strict confidentiality. The selection process will be undertaken by the ESTRO President, Past-President, President-Elect, and Scientific Council Chair. Short-listed candidates will be contacted for an interview. Interviews with shortlisted candidates will be held on the 10th of September.
A final recommendation will be made by the ESTRO Board.
Term
The term for the Editor-in-Chief will be 4 years, renewable once.
Compensation
The position is compensated.
