Biography

Jan Unkelbach studied physics at the Technical University Berlin in Germany. Afterwards he conducted a PhD in medical physics at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg where he graduated in 2006. After postdoctoral studies at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and at the Artificial Intelligence Lab IDSIA in Switzerland, he became Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School in 2010. In 2016 he accepted an Assistant Professor position at the University Hospital Zürich in Switzerland, where he is leading the medical physics research group. His research focuses on various aspects of radiotherapy planning including the development of computational methods for target volume definition, treatment plan optimization for intensity-modulated radiotherapy with photons and protons, and fractionation..
