Biography

Anja Betgen is a radiation therapist working at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam (NKI-AvL). She started her training as a diagnostic radiographer but after a few years she stepped over to radiotherapy. From 2002 she has been working on several research projects which were all related with imaging, in combination with her work in the clinic. She was involved in the development and implementation of the first Cone-beam CT, which was introduced in 2003. She contributed in many articles as first author or co-author and presented her work at various international congresses and Elekta Synergy courses. In 2009 she received her Master of Science in Radiation Oncology. The same year she was the winner of the ESTRO Best Poster Award. Ten years after the introduction of CBCT she started working on the new challenging project of development and introduction of the MR-linac. A whole new imaging modality in radiotherapy which makes it possible to visualize soft tissue not only just before, but also during irradiation. A lot of opportunities, and a lot to develop.
