Biography

Jan Bussink (1964, Denekamp) studied Medicine at Radboud University and received his doctorate degree in 1989. With a fellowship of the Dutch Cancer Society, he then worked in the Radboud University Laboratory of Experimental Radiotherapy and at the Department of Experimental Radiotherapy of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, USA. From 1993 until 1997 he was trained as a radiation oncologist at the Radboud University and since that time he has been working as a radiation oncologist and staff member with the focus on lung oncology. In 2000 he obtained his PhD on research into the micro-environment of the tumor. In 2017 he was appointed Professor of Biological and Molecular Imaging in Experimental Radiotherapy at the Radboud University/the Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen. He has been leading the Experimental Laboratory since 2010 and the Radiotherapy and OncoImmunology Laboratory (ROI) founded in 2017 at the Radboud university medical center. In the ROI researchers study radio-resistance mechanisms at both the biological and the molecular level and search for better treatment outcomes by influencing the immune system in combination with radiotherapy.
