Biography - JOHANNES H.A.M. KAANDERS Born May 10th, 1959 Hans Kaanders is a radiation oncologist holding a full professorship at Radboudumc, Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Training: After his residency in radiation oncology at Radboudumc he continued his training at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, USA as a fellow in head and neck oncology under the supervision of prof. Kian K. Ang from 1989 to 1990. Professional Experience: 1990-present: Staff Radiation Oncologist at the Department of Radiation Oncology of Radboudumc, Nijmegen, The Netherlands. 2002-2006: Associate Professor of Biological Image Guided Radiotherapy. 2004-2007: Deputy Chairman. 2006-present: Professor of Translational Radiation Oncology. 2012-present: Principal Investigator, Radboud Institute of Health Science, Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Clinical and research interests: Hans Kaanders specializes in head and neck cancer, skin cancer and endocrine cancers. He was PI of the “ARCON larynx carcinoma trial”, a Dutch multicenter randomized trial exploiting the combination of accelerated radiotherapy with oxygenation modification for advanced larynx carcinomas. Currently he is the PI of the “UPGRADE trial” that is exploring the safety of dose de-escalation to the elective neck target volume using FDG-PET/CT-based radiation treatment planning. Related translational research interests include tumor microenvironment, tumor hypoxia, functional imaging and radioimmunotherapy.
