Biography
Danique Barten, MSc, is one of the medical physicist experts at the radiotherapy department of the Amsterdam UMC since 2018.
She earned her master degree in Biomedical Technology and Physics at the VU University Amsterdam (2014), and started her career
as medical physicist in training at the radiotherapy department of the VU University Medical Centre (2014-2018).
Since 2018 brachytherapy is her focus area and she is specialized in treatment and research of automated plan optimization for
prostate HDR. She also conducts research in optimizing several steps of the brachytherapy treatment process, such as pre-treatment
verification, treatment plan optimization, and treatment logistics. In this context, she is engaged in research on bowel loop motion
quantification in gynaecological patients, using 3D-cine MRI. Furthermore, she is the leader of a Amsterdam UMC innovation project
for developing simulation models of the brachytherapy treatment process, which will gain the needed insights to determine which
technological and organizational improvements are needed to further improve brachytherapy patient care.
