Biography

Dr. Fong de los Santos is an Assistant Professor of Medical Physics at the Department of Radiation Oncology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He earned his undergraduate degree in Physics Engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico and his Ph.D. in Experimental Biophysics from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He completed his medical physics residency/fellowship at Mayo Clinic and then joined the department of Radiation Oncology in 2008. He is currently the chair of the physics clinical practice and co-chair of the quality and safety committee. His primary research interest is the assessment of radiation oncology information systems, analysis and optimization of clinical process and safety and error mitigation strategies. He holds board certification from the American Board of Radiology in the subfield of therapeutic radiological physics. He is a member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) Work Group on Prevention of Errors in Radiation Oncology and has participated in multiple AAPM projects and task groups in the areas of quality and safety in radiotherapy.
