Biography

Professor Rafał Suwiński is a specialist in radiation oncology and medical oncology. He is the head of Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy Clinic and Teaching Hospital in Maria Sklodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology, Gliwice Branch, Poland. He is also a member of the Transparency Council of the Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Tariffs in Warsaw and chairman of the Bioethics Committee at the National Research Institute of Oncology in Gliwice. He graduated medicine in 1989 from the Silesian Medical University in Katowice. He received PhD in 1996 from the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice. He gained experience during research internships in Dept. of Radiation Oncology, Experimental Division, University of California, Los Angeles and in The Netherlands Cancer Institute, Amsterdam. He received DSc (habilitation) degree from The Maria Sklodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology, Warsaw in 2001 and received the title of professor of medical sciences in 2007. Prof. Suwiński is the author and co-author of over 100 peer-reviewed papers, including over 70 indexed in PubMed database. His main research interests are combined treatment (chemotherapy and radiation) of patients with lung cancer, head and neck cancer, prostate cancer and gastrointestinal cancer. He is also involved in clinical research projects that involve molecular-targeted treatment and immunotherapy.
