Biography

Wilko Verbakel graduated in nuclear physics at the Eindhoven University of Technology in 1994 after which he completed a PDEng in physics instrumentation in 1997. From 1995-2002 he worked at as a nuclear researcher at NRG in the Netherlands, working part of the time in Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT). In 2002 he started his training in medical physics. Beginning of 2003 he completed his PhD in BNCT, and in 2004 he started working as a medical physicist at VU university medical center in Amsterdam. Since then he did research in the field of IMRT, VMAT, improving plan optimization, automated optimization, lung and spine SBRT, intrafraction motion imaging and lately he also got involved in the field of AI in radiotherapy. He is co-author of almost 100 peer reviewed scientific articles. In addition to his work he is involved in helping a radiotherapy department in Nepal and since 18 years he is involved with development work in agriculture in Nepal through the Dutch NGO ICFON.
