Biography

Dr Giulia Marvaso is a Radiation Oncologist working, since September 2015, at the Istituto Europeo di Oncologia (IEO) IRCCS, Milan, Italy as medical assistant. In March 2020 she also gotten the position as Researcher in the Department of Oncology and Onco-Hematology at the University of Milan. In November 2020 she obtained the National scientific qualification for Associate Professor -sector 06/I1 from 09/11/2020 to 09/11/2029. Her major clinical interests include the management of patients with urological and head and neck cancer, oligometastatic status, palliative setting and stereotactic body radiotherapy. Dr. Marvaso’s research focuses on clinical research related to the use of radiotherapy in the management of cancer patients, as well as on the technological and biological issues of high precision radiotherapy with particular attention to hypofractionation. Other research areas include the identification of predictive markers of higher sensitivity to hypofractionation and conventional radiotherapy. She is an active member of the AIRO (Italian Society of Radiotherapy) and member of the Urological AIRO Committee, SIURO (Italian Society of Urologic Oncology) and ESTRO (European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology). She will be involved as co-author for the current Italian Guidelines of Associazione Italiana di Oncologia Medica (AIOM) for “Renal cancer”. During her training as resident she was directly involved in a radiobiology research project aimed at characterizing the molecular pathways determining chemioresistance and radioresistance of breast cancer cells. For the first three months after her residency qualification she had also the chance to attend as clinical observer the “Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori” in Milan, Italy, in the Department of Pediatric Radiation Oncology focusing in particular on the pediatric brain tumors. When she obtained a research AIRC fellowship at IEO, where research becomes treatment in real time, under the mentorship of Prof. Barbara A. Jereczek-Fossa, she was from the beginning involved in different clinical protocols and in research activities and she demonstrated high interest in developing the ability to learn how to adopt a scientific and analytic method in approaching the daily clinical and research activities.
