Biography

Prof. Radhe Mohan is a Tenured Professor and the holder of the Larry and Pat McNeil Chair in the Department of Radiation Physics at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX. The research and development activities during the first thirty-five years of his career included ground-breaking contributions in radiation dose calculations, dosimetry, treatment planning and treatment delivery systems for photons and electrons. Since 2005, his focus has been shifting increasingly to the studies of physical, clinical, biological and, more recently, to immunomodulatory aspects of proton therapy. Since 2009, he has been the recipient of three 5-year Program Project grants for research in proton therapy from the National Cancer Institute. The most recent one, awarded in 2021, is entitled “Integrating patient-specific clinical and biological factors towards individualizing utilization of proton and photon radiation therapy.” His current research is concentrated on immunomodulatory and immuno-stimulatory differences between protons and photons, the potential of particle therapy in combination with immunotherapy and FLASH. He has nearly 500 publications including over 425 in peer-reviewed journals with an H-index of 95. Among the many awards Prof. Mohan has received are the 2003 Edith H. Quimby Award for Lifetime Achievement in Medical Physics of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM); the 2004 Allan M. Cormack Gold Medal of the Association of Medical Physicists of India; the 2010 Failla Memorial Award of the Radiological and Medical Physics Society of New York, the 2013 ASTRO Gold Medal and the 2018 AAPM Coolidge Gold Medal.
