Biography

I completed my education as a Radiation Oncologist in 1996. After working 5 years in the Jolimont Hospital in La Louvière (Belgium), I started working in the Europe Hospitals Brussels and became head of the department in 2009. I’m also consultant radiotherapy with focus on brachytherapy at the Universitair Ziekenhuis Brussel, Vrije Universiteit Brussel. My main focus related to external beam radiotherapy lies on onco-urology, onco-gynaecologie and breast cancer. Besides, I’m practicing for over more than 20 years now brachytherapy in almost all indications (except paediatrics). I have a large experience with LDR and HDR-brachytherapy. Much of my work is devoted to all aspects of clinical practice, including quality assurance, especially investigating the implementation and optimisation of radiotherapy and in particular brachytherapy in the management of prostate and gynaecologic cancer. Education and development of guidelines, especially in target volume delineation and brachytherapy practice, receive my full attention and is supported by my skills to lecture and discuss in 3 languages; Dutch, French and English. I contribute to the work of the ESTRO School as teacher in the prostate brachytherapy course and in many occasions as contouring administrator or teacher in FALCON-educational activities. As scientific representative of ESTRO at EMUC, I’m also the liaison person for this multidisciplinary meeting. Multidisciplinarity and collaboration is a central theme in all these topics.
