Biography

Dr. Herrera was born in Argentina in 1975. After receiving her MD from the National University of Cordoba in 1999, she went on to complete her residency in radiation oncology at the National University of Buenos Aires. From 2005 to 2007, she was a clinical research fellow at Princess Margaret Hospital, University of Toronto, where she specialized in gynecological and genito-urinary cancers, focusing on phase I/II studies combining new molecular targeted agents and radiotherapy (RT). Dr. Herrera has been a board-certified radiation oncologist specializing in genito-urinary and gynecological cancers at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois in Switzerland since 2010. She received her PhD in cancer and immunology with honors from the University of Lausanne - Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in 2017. Dr. Herrera is the chairman of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Gynecology Cancer Group, and she has served as the group's scientific secretary since 2015. She is the principal investigator and co-investigator on several clinical trials. Her laboratory at the Swiss Cancer Center Leman – AGORA Cancer Research Institute investigates the use of low-dose radiotherapy and FLASH radiotherapy in combination with immunotherapy in pre-clinical models with a strong translational path into phase I clinical trials with deep translational interrogation of tumor biopsies.
