Erik Korevaar received a PhD degree for his work on ‘Electron beam treatment optimization by combination of intensity modulated electron and photon beams’ at the Erasmus MC, Rotterdam in 2000 and completed his medical physics residency in the same year. He then moved to the University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland as a post-doc and clinically introduced IMRT. After that he worked 3.5 years primarily on photon dose calculation algorithm development as a research engineer at RaySearch Laboratories in Stockholm, Sweden. Since 2006 he has a medical physics staff position at the University Medical Center in Groningen, The Netherlands, where he works on improvement of intensity modulated photon and protons treatments. He was part of several teams to clinically introduce treatment of thoracic cancers with pencil beam scanning proton beams. Special research interests are auto-planning including multi-criteria optimization, prioritized optimization and machine learning and improvement of robustness evaluation.
