Professor of clinical radiobiology, Dept of Human Oncology, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Environmental Health, Madison, Wisconsin, USA since 2011. From 1987-2011 Director, laboratory of experimental radiation oncology at the Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Research has focused on effects of radiation on normal tissues and in particular the spinal cord, as well as on radiation resistance mechanisms related to the tumor microenvironment. International awards: ESTRO Breur Gold medal, ESTRO Lifetime Achievement Award, ESTRO Honorary Physicist Award, ICRU Gray Medal and the Bacq & Alexander Award from the European Society of Radiation Biology.
