ONGOING PROJECTS

For information about all ongoing projects please contact Evelyn Chimfwembe at evelyn.chimfwembe@estro.org

BIOCARE

The BIOCARE molecular imaginging for biologically optimised cancer therapy project is focused on the clinical evaluation and development of new molecular tracers for the early detection of tumour cells with greater specificity. A large number of new and potentially more specific tracers than fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) are being tested in this project including: amino acid analogues, small tumour-binding peptides, aptamers, peptides binding to mutant p53 proteins and nanoparticles.

CLINICAL AUDIT

To date there has been high variation between the Member States of the EU in the implementation of clinical audits.   The purpose of this Clinical Audit project is to provide clear and comprehensive information on existing procedures and criteria for clinical audits in radiological practices (diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine and radiotherapy) and to provide guidance on clinical auditing including best possible standardization for an improved implementation of the afore mentioned directory.

GENEPI Entb 2

The GENEPI Entb2 project aims to further develop the European tissue bank and database GENEPI-ENTB, established with EURATOM support in FP5 both qualitatively and quantitativly.  The project is dedicated to research in radiation effects and in the genetic determinants of the variation in individual radiosensitivity.

GENEPI Low RT

There are two broad aims of the GENEPI Low RT project.  First, to explore links between the development of severe, normal tissue toxicity following radiotherapy with transcriptional changes and modulation of gene expression induced at low doses.  Secondlyto identify links between individual radiosensitivity and genetic factors.

PCB

The Patterns of Care for Brachytherapy (PCB) is a survey of brachytherapy facilities in the entire European Union (EU). The survey is based on a comprehensive questionnaire with specific questions about lung, gynaecology, breast, and prostate brachytherapy and was launched by the GEC-ESTRO Steering Committee in 2001.
