GEC-ESTRO BRACHYTHERAPY COMMITTEE

GEC-ESTRO was formed in 1990 from the amalgamation of the The Groupe Européen de Curiethérapie (GEC) and the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO). Prior to this, GEC had been an independent group of experts, formed in the mid 1960s, who were interested in all aspects of brachytherapy and responsible for organising annual meetings. This amalgamation has enabled brachytherapy to strengthen its impact in Europe and improved the administrative aspects of education, collaboration and research in brachytherapy. ESTRO has guaranteed the original identity of the GEC group.

GEC-ESTRO is a standing committee of ESTRO, which is governed by an executive group. Members of the Committee are elected. The Terms of Reference of the GEC-ESTRO Committee can be downloaded here. Since ESTRO 23 in 2004, the GEC-ESTRO annual meeting has been fully incorporated into the ESTRO annual congress every other year.
