The European Board of Radiotherapy (EBR) was set up with the purpose of guaranteeing the highest standards of care in radiotherapy in the EC member states by ensuring suitable training of specialists. The EBR has twelve members, six nominated by ESTRO and six elected from within the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) Radiotherapy monospecialty committee. The latter are chosen to represent different regions/linguistic groups in Europe and are also people that are familiar with ESTRO.
The aims of the EBR are achieved by making recommendations with regard to the following:
- setting and maintaining standards of training
- quality of training
- setting standards and the recognition of training institutions
- monitoring the content, quality and evaluation of training in the EC member states
- facilitation of exchange of trainees between the EC member states
- facilitation of free movement of specialists in the EC
